Nissan has always had my respect as an automotive manufacturer. Like every company, Nissan has flaws, but I’ve never felt like they had any significant problems. I say this after driving a handful of sports cars such as the 300zx, 350z, R32 skyline, and Laurel. That being said I was pleased to discover that the greatness carries over to Nissan’s everyday drivers.
The 2007 Nissan Altima I drove had a 3.5L V6 and a six speed manual transmission. That transmission is an important part of this review, because it added a great feel to the driving experience. But let’s get back to the 3.5L v6. It’s essentially the same engine that comes in the 350z, and I loved that. Torque is in abundance, making it easy to pass in any gear you choose. The drivetrain is where the Altima shines. Not only is it quicker than you’d think, but it’s also an enjoyable drive.
The interior isn’t anything special. Just like every other Nissan I’ve driven the Altima’s interior has everything you need and nothing more. The interior is functional, but it won’t blow anyone away. From one point of view I kind of like how bland it is since it really has nothing to prove. But on the other hand I wish I felt a little more special when I got behind the wheel. Even more stereotypical of Nissan, the interior is filled with amber lighting. I don’t know if Nissan ran into an abundance of amber LEDs and they’re just trying to get rid of them, but every 2000’s Nissan is filled with them.
The 2007 Nissan Altima upholds the idea that Nissan makes great cars. Essentially, the Altima is the most Nissan Nissan ever made. It follows all the stereotypes both good and bad. But at the end of the day, the Altima stays true to what Nissan is all about: driving.
