Kia has been in the US for almost thirty years. When they first arrived on our shores, all Kia offered were economy cars that undercut the prices of the local competitors. But now as the brand reaches it’s thirties, they are starting to roll out more and more vehicles people want to buy. The 2021 Kia Seltos is one of those cars.
The 2021 Kia Seltos is offered with two different engines: a 1.6L turbocharged inline 4 cylinder, or a 2.0L naturally aspirated inline four. I drove the naturally aspirated version, which favors low end torque over acceleration. It gets respectable gas mileage, and offers enough power for an SUV that size. The transmission is a CVT when you get the 2.0L, or a seven speed dual clutch automatic when paired to the turbo engine. The CVT is fine, it does the job, but I can’t find room in my heart to really truly love a CVT unit. Last but not least, you can get the Seltos in both AWD and FWD, but if you have any functioning brain cells, you’ll pick the AWD.
The interior is nice, but nothing new for Kia. If you’ve been in a modern Kia product, you’ve pretty much been in them all (Excluding the K900 of course). It does have apple carplay, which I think is the best thing since sliced bread. But besides that, don’t expect to be wow’d by the Seltos.
I usually don’t mention the looks, but I have to touch on it. The Seltos just looks great. It has a fresh take on what an SUV should look like. In all honesty, forget everything else, the looks are the largest draw for me.
I really enjoyed the Seltos. Kia has really stepped up their game in the last couple of years, and so far, it has been win after win!
