2019 Chevy Silverado Custom Trail Boss Z71
The 2019 Chevy Silverado Custom Trail Boss Z71 is powered by a 5.3 liter Ecotec V8 with a six-speed transmission. This engine is the same one that Chevy has been using for some time now, and it really is pretty solid. Even though this particular model was automatic, there are the usual plus and minus markings on the shifter. This is not for sports mode, as some people might think. This is actually used for downshifting when you want to use engine braking, so you don’t wear down your brakes so much, especially when pulling a heavy load. While the truck is not particularly quick, it has a good amount of torque and can pull a decent load. Finally, it is four-wheel drive.
The main cluster has the usual array of analog gauges. There’s the standard oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel gauge, and battery voltage.
This particular model is fairly sparse when it comes to controls on the steering wheel. There are the typical cruise control switches on the left and no buttons on the left of the steering wheel.
The infotainment monitor is a good size. It also allows access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is a great feature because it really solves any issues with the infotainment system. It seems that auto manufacturers have wised up and left that part of the car to third-party systems instead of their own proprietary systems like the one in the 2018 Mazdas.
This model does come with hill descent control. This will actually help to slow down the truck if you are heading down a hill and the truck begins to speed up without your input (you’re not pressing on the gas pedal).
Another nice control is the tailgate button. This lowers the tailgate automatically with the push of the button. It’s a really nice feature I haven’t seen on other trucks.
The Silverado does have rear seats and full rear doors. There is a lot of legroom in the back of the Silverado, more than the Colorado. The back is spacious and very comfortable.
The Z71 package on this truck is dressier than the standard version. The suspension is also actually lifted about 2 inches.
One really noticeable feature is the gigantic “Chevrolet” name all the way across the front grill of the truck. When it first came out, some people were really upset about the look of it. However, many different truck manufacturers have done this, so it is really not that unusual.
The Trail Boss version of this model includes 18 inch Goodyear Duratrac Tires, the tow inch lift kit, and the Trail Boss sticker. Also, like the Z71 package, you get the two-speed transfer case, skid plates, Rancho Shocks, and the locking rear differential.
The 2019 Chevy Silverado Custom Trail Boss Z71 is a Chevy through and through. It is not as cushy as a Dodge, but it feels more utilitarian. It’s solid and does what a truck should. It is comfortable and roomy, but a little more rugged-feeling than trucks made by other manufacturers. Overall, it delivers.
